  •   TODAYS F150 5thWHEEL HITCHES ARE MUCH SAFER TOWING AND LOOK BETTER TOO

  • F150 5 thWheel Hitches
  • Where did the term come from
  • What are the benefits of this type of hitch
  • Why do they have better tracking
  • Will they improve or hurt my braking ability

The term 5thwheel came from buggy days on horse-drawn carriages and wagons. The 5th wheel was a way for the front Axel to pivot in the horizontal plane allowing the wagon to turn. I'm sure some Ford driver (lol)  coined the term because it was a circular device that looked like its name sake. These mounts are the same type of 5thwheel hitches found on semi-trucks pulling huge loads.

There are many benefits of towing a 5thwheel type trailer. The number one benefit of 5thwheel hitches is safety. If you have ever towed trailers with standard a hitch and had the weight distribution off, then you know what fish tailing is. Or ever had to make an emergency stop and had the trailer try to push you off the road unlike 5thwheel that wont do that then you know. Or just going down hill and having to brake is very scary sometimes. The wind plays heck with you also when your driving down a strait road the wind is pushing you and the trailers trying to drive the truck, not a good feeling. this wont happen with a 5thwheel hitch. 5thwheel hitches are much safer.

Why do 5thwheel hitches work so much better.  5thwheel hitches are designed to move the tongue weight forward closer to the center of the rear axel unlike a standard hitch that places the weight behind the rear axel.  By placing the5thwheel tongue over the rear axel it eliminates fish tailing.  The 5thwheel moves more of the weight towards the front gives better control because unlike the 5th wheel hitches the standard hitches tongue weight  is mounted behind the axel and  this  tends to lift the front off the ground. The 5thwheel hitch by moving the tow point forward also adds stability. The 5thwheel hitch improves braking stability and performance no more feeling like your trailer hitch is driving you.

Over all if you have a F-150 truck with one of the standard hitches and towing a trailer,  purchase one of our 5thwheel hitches. The 5thwheel hitches are safer than other hitches. The 5thwheel hitches made today offer options some 5thwheel hitches have removable king pins other 5thwheel hitches have removable frames Ive seen 5thwheel hitches with spare tire racks other 5thwheel hitches with tool boxes.  We have hitches, both standard hitches or 5thwheel hitches we have hitches to solve your problems right here at F150mania your store for F150 5thwheel hitches and great customer service DEAN

My wife and I leave Thursday for Wanesville, NC from Tampa. We normally have gone through Atlanta, but would like to avoid the traffic in our new (to us) 40 foot RV. Is there a less congested route from Macon north that anyone would suggest?
9/6/2010 - Drain Air Tanks - How?
My owner's manual (2002 Winnie Ultimate Freedom) says to drain the air tanks before every trip. Where are the drain plugs or valves? Still exploring our coach and looking for everything that should be maintained.
9/6/2010 - Jesus, Satan & computers
Jesus and Satan were having an on-going argument about who was better on the computer. They had been going at it for days, and frankly God was tired of hearing all the bickering. Finally fed up, God said, 'THAT'S IT! I have had enough. I am going to set up a test that will run for two hours,...

9/6/2010 - Courtesy Blink Switch
My wife and I just picked up our new (to us) 1999 Ultimate Freedom 40J. In examining the 1999 brochure on the rig, the specifications list as standard equipment under "Driver Convenience" items a "Courtesy Blink Switch. I have two questions on this: 1. Is this the same type of device used by over...
9/6/2010 - Outside Ladder Stand-Off - Where to get
I have 3 of my 4 ladder stand-offs with rusted out screws. I need either new stand-offs or maybe just the star nuts that go inside the stand-off. I searched here and on the web and can't find them anywhere. I might not be using the right term, but I don't know what else to call them. ...
