   Protecting the paint on your vehicle was the idea behind the first bug shield. They were simply a piece of flat metal that was attached to the front of the grill and stood up in front of the leading edge of the hood to protect the paint. a Guard if you will. The original reason was to protect the leading edge of the hood from nicks, dings and road debris. There was a benefit that no one anticipated with the bug shield seems as though the number of insects that hit the windshield was less,

  The first bug shield were born. I couldn't find the first one to recognize this was but, I like to Imagine some retired Sun City type didn't want his paint damaged, out there bolting on a piece of tin on his truck that pulls his travel trailer and noticing that he didn't have to scrape as many bugs off as he did before he installed his bug shield. And the rest is history .

A lot has happened since old Henry took those tin bug shield and slapped it to his truck, And since then the bug shield have evolved many times over, I remember the first bug shield were made from a extruded piece of aluminum that was shaped like a L with a notch that a piece Plexiglas about 4 inches high was placed into it, these bug shield came in clear and blue. Shortly after that the bug shield were offered in more colors.

Today bug shield have gone through even more changes. They have spent many hours in wind tunnel testing, yes bug shield in wind tunnels I said, seems as though somebody testing the bug shield has discovered that the bug shield cut down on the number of Insect hits is because the bug shield themselves was creating a air dam causing the flow of air to deflect higher over the  windshield. The bug shield of then also had a small down side for old strait up bug shield, it increased the drag or wind resistance. The bug shield went back to the tunnel. Here the bug shield have been reworked to the nth power.

The bug shield that we get today have been tested for every make and model. The bug shield have been designed so that we have minimum drag while maximizing the the bug shield design for an aerodynamic contribution to your vehicle.
