Exhaust headers are as important as air and gas to your engines performance. Matter of fact, in most cases for the average truck enthusiast they are quite commonly over looked when it comes to headers and performance upgrades. why, one reason is cost. But for most of us, it's just not understanding how a set performance exhaust headers works and why. To begin with, most are under the impression that a wide open set of strait headers and exhaust, that is often loud is the best way to go, not so. The easiest way to explain why this is is this, when you have a garden hose running on the ground and you shut the water off fast the hose will "jump". This is caused by inertia, the same thing applies also when you "kink" the hose there is allot of noise and turbulence in the hose, that's what is making the noise, Exhaust gases work the same. In the performance exhaust headers world that inertia causes an effect called Scavenging, this is a good thing. The problem is this if you OPEN up your exhaust headers and system with a large diameter almost zero back pressure headers and exhaust system it will sound great and loud but the velocity of your exhaust gases actually slows down, and there is allot of turbulence created, this in turn kills your scavenging effect and you loose tons of low end performance.
Here's how the Gibson Headers Takes Care of that. With over 18 years of performance exhaust headers experience, Gibson performance Designs builds and tests all performance exhaust headers and exhaust systems and components in its state of the art 100,000 sqft facility on both engine and chassis dyno's matching the headers and exhuast systems, installing them on the truck they are designed for on a chassis dyno, to get every drop of power and economy they can, and all exhaust headers, exhaust systems and parts are 50 states legal and backed by a life time warranty to boot.
Gibson performance Exhaust, being a leader in street performance exhaust systems understands that most of us use our trucks in the 2000 to4000 Rpm range and we only occasionally ever venture into the 5500 to 6500 range. So our trucks are built by the factory for our torque and power band to come in the 2-4k range. thats where we go wrong at, unless your using your F150 for all out performance a large open exhaust will not give you good over all exhaust performance. may be loud and sound great but the guy with the Gibson exhaust performance matched headers and exhaust systems will be leaving you in the dust. Gibson exhaust headers are designed for gobs of low end torque and best over all performance and are matched systems to insure the best exhaust performance
